Artiste : PHILIPPE SEENÉ *
Philippe Seené discovered sculpture while preparing for art school and later became a teacher.
Through this technique, he took bronze and terracotta as a means of expression, giving life to his subjects. Contrary to what is commonly thought of sculpture and what it is used to represent. The sculpture that freezes the moment to immortalise it. Philippe Senné, on the other hand, goes against the conventional, he does not freeze time, but suggests it. He wants to encompass the emotion, the reflection, the impulse, which guides the fraction of a second he represents.
A fraction of a second that takes part in a whole context. In order to imagine the before, the after and understand to articulate the present. Each element, each second is part of a succession of emotions, thoughts, events. Each stone gives meaning to the building. His sculptures, with a deceptively classical air, are nevertheless a whole set of dimensions to be coordinated in order to grasp the creative will. Elaborated with an air of Da Vinci for the philosophical aspect or of Michelangelo for the power in movement, his works are evocative rather than figurative. And to do this, Philippe Seené does not hesitate to distort reality to give life to a movement and bring out a force. "There is no need to put everything and say everything, it is the movement that interests me. Inspired by the Renaissance, for its humanism, the Parisian artist likes to transmit its values to his students and admirers... whether in Paris at the front of the desks of the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués, in exhibitions and teaching at the Atelier Pierre Charenton or in his home and workshops in Guimaëc. Philippe Seené gives a new feel to the contemporary, reviving the movements of the past.
He has received the Charles Malfray and Evariste Jonchère sculpture prizes.
