Born in Germany with Indo-Trinidadian roots, Gala Lillian offers the viewers a personal in look into her most intimate and sacred dreams which she captures in paint. She creates a place where the line between elements brought in by dreams and the conscious state of mind is blurred out and all that’s left is a glimpse of a memory passed by. Being vulnerable and honest in order to build a relationship between her past experiences and current self is a recurring theme in her work. It’s important for her to create a universal language in which she can create a space where all emotions are welcome and a feeling of understanding is spread. Inspired by female surrealist painters of the 20s, painting comes as the most natural expression to her playful fragmented universe.
