'The little Devil Cat'
A porcelain sculpture created by artist Javier Calleja for the contemporary art platform Art Editions.
Little Devil Cat is one of three characters in *You Choose One*, a work through which Javier Calleja invites us to reflect on the voice of conscience, on that “Jiminy Cricket,” and, in this case, on the little devil we all have inside us. With a cat’s body, bat wings, little horns, and a pointed tail, rather than scaring us, we’ll probably want to take this little devil home. Its yellow glass eyes give it a very personal character, while the handcrafted design makes each cat unique.

Description
This little cat is painted in a warm black with a glossy finish—a color created specifically for Javier Calleja and our in-house team of decorative artists, who achieved the desired shade by developing a reddish black using a special formula.
Little Devil Cat’s apparent external simplicity conceals a highly complex porcelain production process. The large size of the head and the structure of the wings presented a significant technical challenge, particularly during firing, when—like all Lladró creations—the piece shrinks by approximately 15% in size. For this shrinkage to be successful and for the piece to retain its proportions, meticulous prior research and experimentation, along with consummate mastery of porcelain, are required. The result is a unique work of art signed by one of the world’s most sought-after contemporary artists. As devilish as it may be—or perhaps precisely because of that—you are bound to fall in love with this little imp.
